FAQ

For use in Europe, Asia, South America or Africa we recommend 4G3LTE. For North America (USA, Canada) or international projects with changing deployment locations, 4G4LTE is the better choice as it covers more frequency bands.

Yes, the modem has two SMA antenna connections for MIMO operation. External antennas are required and not included. We offer suitable magnetic base and outdoor antennas as accessories. For optimal performance both antenna connections should be used.

The LTE modem is connected via USB cable to the router’s USB port. Power is supplied either via USB or via the separate voltage input (9-24V DC). In router configuration the modem is set up as WAN interface – our VPN routers recognize the modems automatically.

Yes, the modem works on any Linux system with USB port. Under Linux the qmi_wwan driver or USB serial interface is used. Setup is via NetworkManager or directly via AT commands. Note that the Raspberry Pi may not supply enough power via USB – then use external power supply.

The modem uses a Mini-SIM (2FF). For industrial applications we recommend M2M SIM cards with fixed IP address and longer contract terms. Standard mobile tariffs also work but are often less cost-effective for continuous operation.

Yes, the modem supports SMS send and receive. In combination with a VPN router or industrial PC you can configure automatic SMS notifications for alarms or status changes.

The modem automatically switches to the next best available standard (HSPA+, UMTS, EDGE, GPRS). So you stay online even with weak LTE signal – just with reduced speed. The switch happens automatically without connection loss.

In operation power consumption is typically 2-3 W, max 5 W. Significantly less in standby. The modem can be powered via USB or externally with 9-24V DC. For USB power at Raspberry Pi we recommend a power supply with at least 3A.

Yes, on a VPN router with two USB ports you can connect two modems for different operators. The router can be configured to automatically switch to the other when one network fails.
